The Jubilee Year 2025 culminated in the solemn closing of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica on January 6, 2026. In the Philippines, the Archdiocese of Manila held its own closing rites on December 26, 2025 at the Manila Cathedral. Families and communities were invited to join in thanksgiving and participate in the spirit of the Jubilee encouraging communities to foster solidarity, justice and peace, especially in times of global uncertainty.

The Jubilee Year is traditionally celebrated every 25 years to offer the faithful to deepen their faith and receive plenary indulgences. The Jubilee Year 2025 called the Jubilee of Hope emphasized renewal, reconciliation, hope and trust in God’s mercy. We live anew the spirit of the Jubilee in our observance of Lent which opens on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, until Easter. The observance of Lent calls for deepening in the spirit of the Jubilee to receive in abundance the blessings of Easter and grow in the fullness of the grace of Christ’s Resurrection!

Lenten Season

Lent is a time to pause, reflect and make space for renewal in preparation for Easter. Let go of what distracts us and draw closer to God in prayer, fasting and almsgiving as we take the step to reconcile with God and neighbor.

May we find and grow in inner strength in fasting, hope in prayer and love in almsgiving. It is living in simplicity, in the silence of prayer and in serving and sharing in charity.

The forty days of Lent mirror Christ’s time in the desert for forty days, reminding us that spiritual growth often comes through sacrifice and silence. Lent is not just about giving up – it is about making space for God to grow and deepen in relationship with him. It is making space for others in forgiving or asking for forgiveness to be reconciled. And God blesses us with the new life of grace.
Dear Friends and Readers,

May the Risen Christ bless you with new hope in the challenges of life, assuring you that no burden is too heavy carried with him and no brokenness and depression too great for his love. His Resurrection invites us to rise with him into new beginning in his peace and joy to live in his light and be light to others in their engulfed darkness.

Easter is a living promise that new life is possible. Easter calls us to live as people of the Resurrection, as Alleluia people, as people of joy! All this we pray and wish for you, dear friends, benefactors and readers. Happy Easter to each and everyone! God grant you the fullness of his Easter blessings.

On January 17, Bp. Samuel Agcaracar, SVD, D.D. was ordained and consecrated bishop in the SVD Holy Spirit Chapel by Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle who came to us after his lunch in the celebration. We welcomed him in the Dining Room and listened with interest as he acquainted us with the nuances of our digitalized world and answered our questions. Before he left we had picture taking with him in our atrium.

Lastly but not the least, the newly consecrated and ordained Bishop Samuel Agcaracar celebrated Mass with concelebrant, Fr. Stan Orečny, SVD on the feast of Sto. Niño, January 18. He said he chose to celebrate his first thanksgiving Mass with us because of closeness to our community from his seminary years to this day ever grateful that we journeyed with him in prayer to this very day. After Mass we posed with him for picture taking as souvenir of his visit.

T b he KAPATIRAN celebration will always be well remembered. It was togetherness of the Arnoldus Family. St. Arnold Janssen with his unwavering faith in doing God’s will founded our three Congregations: the Society of the Divine Word, the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Spirit and the Adoration Sisters. God truly blessed St. Arnold, his instrument, in realizing our shared mission for the spread of his Kingdom to the glory of the Triune God. Be blessed oh Holy Triune God! It was worth preparing for it. It was making alive memories of Steyl of long ago in Tagaytay!

The SVD priests and seminarians, the SSpS community in Tagaytay, four of them and us sang and prayed Vespers together. The sonorous men’s voices lent solemnity to praising the Lord. Dinner was prepared inside our garden. Wonder of wonders, God with us, we had a beautiful weather in spite of prediction of rain. Program followed with lively numbers from the three Congregations. With joyful hearts we turn to God in thanksgiving for the SVD 150th Anniversary of Foundation, the Kapatiran celebration and for the presence of our esteemed guests this year 2026! Thank you, Lord!
